Pillow
From KayakWiki
[edit] Jury rigged pillow
If you are carrying your camping equipment on board a kayak, it probably wouldn't include a pillow. They're a bit too bulky, and not really necessary. Especially as other bits of kit can serve the same purpose:
I use a drybag for a pillow. I fill it with the clothes I plan to wear in the morning, which guarantees they will be dry and not too cold when I want them. Then I cover the bag with a fleece pullover. Instant pillow!
[edit] Homemade pillow case
- You can make a pillow case for camping out of a light fleece. Chamois-weightor velour fleece is perfect. Make a bag with one end folded over. You can then stuff the pillow case with towels, clothing etc at night and the result is a comfy pillow.
- Using heat-sealable fabric, you can take a small slab on foam, cover it with the fabric and add an inflation valve. When at the campsite, cover with something like fleece for a bit of softness and put inside the pillow case.
[edit] Commercial camping pillows
- Fiber-fill pillows. These tend to be a poor pillow - they have to be compressible to pack efficiently and that means they squish to nothing under your head.
- Inflatable, foam filled pillow - from the folks that make sleeping pads, these go inside a pillow case.
- Chamois or velour pillow case - commercial version of what can be homemade easily.
