Iceland's main sea kayaking is on the west coast, primarily at Breidafjordur bay and the Westfjords.

The Breidafjordur area is a marine nature reserve, characterised by dozens of low lying islands, strong tidal currents and rich in seals, porpoises and sea birds. It's also where the outlaw Erik the red hid while preparing for his excile and consequent exploration and naming of Greenland in 970 AD or so.

There is a sea kayak centre in the main town for this area, at Stykkisholmur.

The Westfjords are characterised by deep fjords with few villages and the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve at the top.

The main town Isafjordur has an active sea kayaking club and members there are keen to receive visitors.

Travel all around Iceland is easy, with buses, flights and car hire. Equipment freight to and from Iceland is easy as is local freight.

Supplies are easily bought locally but more expensive than what you may be used too.
